Regina Losinger

Exhibiting Artist

Regina is a painter and photographer whose work is rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world, shaped by years of paddling remote waterways, cycling back roads, and working close to the land.

She paints in oils, acrylic, and watercolor, often en plein air.

An artist in her early years, she set it aside during a long and rewarding career in higher education, retiring as Vice President at SUNY Broome. With encouragement from her daughter, artist Ashlyn Kelley, she returned to painting after retirement—studying at SUNY Broome and Binghamton University.

Her art carries both the depth of lived experience and the renewed energy of rediscovery, exploring light, place, and presence—inviting viewers into moments of quiet, reflection, and connection with the natural world.

My art grows out of years I have spent paddling and camping in the backcountry. Few people see these lakes at dawn, these interiors of forest lit from within, or skies held perfectly in dark, undisturbed water. Fewer still experience the profound stillness that lives there.

Most of my oil and acrylic paintings are loosely realistic - contemporary impressionist landscapes emphasizing light and reflection and grounded in direct observation.

I also create small watercolors, many of which are painted en plein air in the back country.

My paintings do not aim to distort the landscape, but to reveal it—to express the rhythm of trees, the weight of rock, and the way light filters, diffuses, and fractures through wilderness.

My intention is not only to show what these places look like, but to evoke what it feels like to be there.

I also creates large-format paintings that invite the viewer to step inside: to stand in the hush before sunset, to feel forest light gathering, to sense water moving softly against a boat hull.

My photographs capture moments seen, carried out, and held.

My art is an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to experience what it feels like to be in the back country.
