Kit Ashman

For the past year in preparation for this show I have studied the figure. Every Sunday I serve breakfast and then we joyously draw or paint from live model. I am showing a series called "Sunday mornings" comprised of charcoal drawings of the figure. In the past I have portrayed people close to me. In this new work I have tried something new in that it is the generic figure and how it takes up that part of the world, its weight, its mass. In the paintings, the figures may be recognizable, but really it is about the story or how each is occupying his/her space. ~ Kit Burnham-Ashman
