Plein Air Painting – Location TBD
Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Their desire to paint light and its changing, ephemeral qualities, coupled with the creation of transportable paint tubes and the box easel—the precursor to the plein air easels of today—allowed artists the freedom to paint “en plein air,” which is the French expression for “in the open air.”
Supplies Suggestion
Whatever you decide to create with (painting, sketching, etc.) you know what you'll need.
Additionally:
- Something to sit on
- Water
- Music and headphones
- Lunch (if you don't want to buy on site)
The store at Cutler Gardens has a kitchen and sells lunches, snacks etc, and also has a place to sit inside or outside. A great option if you don't want to bring your own lunch.
There's no need to sign up, just show up! We'll meet in the parking lot.
If the weather turns, use your own discretion if you still want to paint or draw on site.
