Martha Colgan (1946-2025) was a painter, printmaker, and mixed media artist. In her early years, drawing, painting, and pastels were her focus; her subjects included landscape, still life, and scenes of the Binghamton area. Throughout her life and art, she was inspired by nature and animals: birds and trees were often her subjects, and she incorporated organic matter such as sticks and leaves into her work. Martha was also an abstract art enthusiast and had a special devotion to printmaking. Her passion for experimentation led her to making collage prints, combining texture, drawing, painting, stencil, and printmaking techniques together. According to Martha, “The medium is the message!” This retrospective show tells part of Martha’s story as an artist, showcasing selected works throughout the years.
