BEAUTIFUL MI$STAKE

Natalie Dadamio

As an abstract artist, my work is rooted in process, channeling a raw, primal energy through gestural mark-making, instinctive movement, and layered moments—allowing something larger than myself to take over, guiding the creation with an untamed, expressive force. Color plays a central role in my work, not just as a formal component but as a direct and visceral response. Whether bold and electric or subdued and atmospheric, each hue is chosen to evoke emotional depth and reflect the complexities of human experience. Working across mixed media — acrylic, graphite, charcoal, pastel, spray paint, crayon, and collage—I build textured surfaces that act as emotional landscapes. These materials interact in unpredictable ways, embracing imperfection and chance as essential elements of creation. The resulting works exist in a state of flux, shifting between presence and erasure, emergence and dissolution, mirroring the transient nature of thought and feeling. At the core of my abstract approach is a balance between conscious intention and subconscious impulse. By rejecting fixed forms and embracing the unknown, my practice remains open—fluid, ever-evolving, and deeply connected to inner and outer discovery. There is always something in flux, always something being questioned. As a steward of mystery, I translate emotional states into expression, evoking a response—one way or another. Drawn to the tension and juxtaposition that unfold both internally and externally, I allow space for meaning to emerge in unexpected ways.

Natalie Dadamio (b. 1979) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Upstate NY. Working primarily in abstraction, she embraces spontaneity, layering, and raw mark-making to explore themes of transformation and imperfection. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Binghamton University. In November 2024, she completed a month-long artist residency at the Broome County Council of Arts in Binghamton, NY. Her project, ‘Draw It Out’, culminated in an Open Studio Exhibition on December 6, 2024 with a large drawing wall installation, marking the importance of installation developing in her work. Her solo exhibition, ‘Beautiful Mistake’, opening May 2025, explores themes of resilience, abandonment, and growth, as well as the experimental nature of art-making—bridging personal and universal narratives. It is also an exploration in process and the act of letting go, allowing intuition and spontaneity to guide the work. In November 2025, Dadamio will present her second solo exhibition, ‘Unbounded: Breaking Free From Traditional Constraints’, at the Tioga Arts Council in Owego, NY, sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Earlier this year Dadamio was awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA25) grant in recognition of her contributions to contemporary abstraction and her commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.

Her work has been exhibited at the Orazio Salati Gallery and The Pathway Gallery in Binghamton, NY, and is held in collections across the U.S. and internationally.
