The Cooperative Gallery at 213 State Street in Binghamton, is sponsoring “TRANSFORMATIONS” July 30 through July 23rd, 2016, a multi-media exhibit of the art work of Karen Kuff-Demicco and Janet Normile. It opens with receptions Thursday, June 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. and First Friday July 1st from 3 to 9 p.m. Following on the heels of last month’s show, “TRASH”, Normile repurposes old, discarded objects to create assemblages that reflect attention to design, color, and metaphor. Embroidery hoops, calico, bits of copper, a finial, a chair rail, etc. contribute to a unique three dimensional pattern. According to Normile, “The metaphor, which is in my head, is for you to discover. My concern for the environment is obvious. Don’t toss it! Make meaning! Make art!”

Karen Kuff-Demicco is always in the process of transforming her artwork from many viewpoints. She observes, “Using terra cotta clay I create characters that have something to say as they engage with you and each other.” She also introduces new work that incorporates unrelated objects into a united sculpture with a changed meaning. Another transformation illustrated in this show is her venture into the two- dimensional world through her continued exploration of color.
