I have been making photographs for over forty years, starting with snapshots taken with an Agfa box camera, moving to a 35mm SLR, and recently making the transition to digital. Locations have included upstate New York, New England (primarily Maine), and various destinations across the continental United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. I try to give my photographs a vivid sense of time and place while presenting a satisfying composition, whereby formal elements such as shape, color, and dynamics all contribute to the work as a whole. Sometimes there are semantic aspects and implied meanings as well. I believe that a successful photograph must engage the viewer in multiple dimensions, resonate aesthetically, intellectually, and emotionally, its objective being to achieve immediacy, capture and impart the essence of the subject at an instant in time.
